Maybelline New York Cosmetics History

Maybelline has been in the business of making women beautiful since 1915. The company was founded by T.L. Williams, a chemist. He named the company after his older sister, Mabel, who thought that the mascara her brother invented could help in love affairs and save hundreds of women's lives. Maybelline New York was the first ever company to release an eye cosmetic, called the cake mascara, for commercial use.

The funny thing is that the Maybelline Cake Mascara was only sold through mail and advertised in magazines - much the same as online stores nowadats. It became so popular amongst women that in 1920, that Maybelline company decided to start selling them in stores. The first Maybelline Makeup sold in drug stores was the eyeshadow. In 1923, variety or general merchandise stores started selling the Cake Mascara and the rest they say is history. Since then, Maybelline Cosmetics has grown into a multi-million dollar company offering a wide range of makeup for lips, eyes and face.

Maybelline Makeup is now sold all over the world in almost every retail store you can think of, drug stores, department stores, supermarkets and novelty item shops.
